A Look at Some 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Highlights

The Chevy Colorado has been refreshed for 2023 with an updated bed, an all-new camera, and the latest in-vehicle technology. With four different trim options, there’s a truck for every driver, from the adventurous off-roader to the toughest job site companion. The latest models come with a number of updated safety features, including a standard backup camera, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and a following distance indicator. Its compact size makes the Chevy Colorado a perfect vehicle for maneuvering busy downtown streets and parking in tight spaces.

The 2023 Colorado gets aesthetic updates inside and out, with the interior seeing a major overhaul. Many of the starkest changes come right from the main console of the vehicle. Its 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment center comes with a color touchscreen, with a fully digital 8-inch driver information center positioned next to it, above the steering wheel. Each screen can be customized to show the driver critical information while operating the vehicle, including map data, vehicle function checks, and off-road performance. Standard across trims is a higher contrast in upholstery stitching for a more complex look and rounded outboard vents. The interior updates make the truck more comfortable and luxurious, while exterior improvements give the Colorado a rugged appearance. The different trims available have variability in size and length to match the demands of the technology.

The midsize truck comes on three different chassis configurations designed for any lifestyle. The standard chassis comes with the Colorado’s WT, LT, and Z71 trim levels and has a maximum height of 78.8 inches from the ground. The ZR2 trim comes on a high-performance chassis that clocks in at a height of 81.9 inches, a full 3.1 inches higher than the base model, with a 2.8-inch higher ground clearance. To support the increased off-roading capabilities of the 2023 Colorado, the vehicle offers up to five different drive modes covering anything from everyday driving through the streets of Birmingham to Off-Road and Terrain modes for driving on trails and rock crawling.

After showing its effect in the Silverado, the 2023 Colorado sees the addition of a 2.7L Turbo engine offering three different outputs based on the trim chosen. The base 2.7L Turbo engine, available in the WT and LT, can generate up to 237 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque and tow up to 3,500 lbs. Moving up is the 2.7L Turbo Plus engine, producing 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque and the ability to tow up to 7,700 lbs. This engine comes standard in the Z71 and Trail Boss versions of the Colorado and is available for the WT and LT trims. The High-Output version of the 2.7L matches the Turbo Plus in horsepower but dramatically increases in torque, producing a whopping 430 lb-ft. The engine comes standard in the ZR2 with a max towing capacity of 7,700 lbs.

The Silverado 1500 is the centerpiece of the Chevy truck line, and while it did not undergo a full redesign for 2023, it still received substantial updates for improved comfort and performance. Its multi-flex tailgate has undergone some improvements in the model refresh, providing drivers with a diverse bed that can work in several different applications and functions. In addition to a best-in-class 89.1 cu.ft. of available cargo volume, the truck comes with twelve standard tie-downs to keep items being transported in place. If you need to get further into the bed to reach an item, the inner gate can fold down into a step. Need a place to work? The inner gate can also open into a workspace or loading station that can fit blueprints, materials, or a laptop. A Silverado is designed with functionality in mind, and the 2023 model ensures drivers can get the most out of their next vehicle.

The most notable update to the full-size truck is the addition of a new trim, the ZR2 Bison. After introducing the all-terrain Silverado ZR2 in the spring of 2022, Chevrolet designed this latest trim as part of a collaborative effort with American Expedition Vehicles, an aftermarket manufacturer specializing in off-road vehicles and accessories.

Engineered for off-pavement adventures, the Silverado ZR2 Bison comes equipped with AEV accessories, including 18-inch gloss-black AEV wheels, outer decals, and unique front and rear differentials. To protect the lower components of the vehicle and its 11.2-inch road clearance, Chevy has implemented steel rockers to prevent scratches, bumps, and mechanical issues within the truck. The combination of AEV technology and Chevrolet engineering allows drivers the best off-roading experience possible, as safely as possible.

Also available in the 2023 Silverado is the second generation of the 3.0L inline-six Turbo-Diesel Duramax engine for an additional boost for those who prefer diesel. The updated engine has upgraded several key components for higher performance, including a 10% bump in horsepower and a 7.6% increase in maximum torque. Some newer components include a readjusted turbo compressor, updated pistons with a redesigned combustion bowl, and improved temperature control for a quieter engine and better mileage. The new engine will be available in several trims of the Silverado 1500, including the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, High Country, LTZ, LT, and RST.
